Recently Regional Power has teamed up Vancouver Aboriginal Skills Employment Partnership (VanAsep) and Sechelt First Nation to train operators for hydro projects.
The Power Plant Operator Training Program is a three-part, 18-week program with additional practical training designed to provide entry-level workers with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to become safe and effective Power Plant Operators on run-of-river projects.
Students are first taught the essential skills in a 6-week training course to prepare them for practical work experience. Industry will select and hire foundation program graduates for a 3–6 month practicum for on the job learning and assessment.
The practicum is followed by an additional 12-week technical foundation training to further develop the knowledge, skills, abilities and experience of the students to become fully capable in the operations of a power plant.
